Francis Harwood (fl. 1748-1769) was widely patronised by the English aristocracy, specialising in marble representations of antique originals. The present version of the Medici Venus, one of the most popular sculptural images of the 18th century, was likely commissioned by an English patron while on the Grand Tour.
