Lot Essay

The present work belongs to a series of oils executed by Renoir of these two young girls in the 1890s. Other notable compositions aside from those of the two sisters sitting in the fields (see figs. 1 and 2) are his celebrated compositions entitled Le chapeau épinglé and Enfants jouant à la balle.
