Lot Essay

Note: The postage had been reduced to one penny on letters up to ½oz. providing the address was within the city of Cape Town boundaries. On 15th December 1864, just one week before this item was posted, the penny postage was extended to some eight other places including Bennetsville (later known as Klapmuts).
