1948 TALBOT LAGO GRAND SPORT VANDEN PLAS BODY
This Vanden Plas coupe body was originally fitted on the Lago Grand Sport Chassis No. 110106 (2.65m wheelbase), purchased in August 1948 by Goldie Gardner, the English record breaker. In 1951 the Belgian amateur racing driver Claude Nias bought the car and enterered it in the Liege-Rome-Liege Rally in both 1951 and 1952, where the car was honorably classed.
In 1952 Nias decided to lighten the car further and commissioned the Belgian coachbuilder Martial Oblin to make a new competition body which much resembled a 375 MM Ferrari. The car went on to compete in many more notable events including Le Mans. The car is documented with photographs of each body on pages 148-150 of the Alain Spitz book Talbot.
The original body of this renowed car is in need of restoration. It interestingly retains a Liege-Rome-Liege sticker on the windscreen and is being sold together with a car trailer.
