Giovanni Cardente's description of Il Cavaliere Azzurro in his catalogue to the major 1966 Rome exhibition highlights the importance of the present painting: "E' tra i più intensi e felici dipinti dell'Artista, caricao di una drammatica tensione che le sottolineature cromatische accentuano anche in senso dinamico' (op. cit., p. 44.)
