The "A26" Obliterators
cover 1860 (27 Feb.) unfranked E.L. from Arbe, Yugoslavia to Marseilles, showing Austrian P.O. despatch c.d.s., Trieste (29.2), Autriche Culoz (4.3), Lyon (4.3), Lyon - Marseilles (4.3) and Marseilles (4.3) d.s., the E.L. was then redirected to Gibraltar showing Marseilles - Lyon? (15.3), Bordeaux - Bayonne (17.3) and San Roque Cadiz (24.3) d.s., the E.L. was again redirected to Suez and bears 1856 6d. with wing-margin (lifted and hinged back in place) and 1857 4d. (crossed by heavy filing crease) cancelled by clear "A26" obliterators; the E.L. also shows h.s. "8" overstruck by h.s. "4R" partly obscured by the 6d. and possibly a Gibraltar arrival c.d.s. in blue underneath the 4d. The E.L. rather soiled and worn, nevertheless a facinating item of postal history. Photo
