cover 1835 (c.) large outer letter sheet of vellum (11"x8½") with beautifully handpainted address panel and decorative border in gold, blue, green and red, of floral design incorporating an Imperial British Crown, addressed "To the most Illustrious Lord Mustaffa/Bashaw Bey of the Kingdom of Tunis", showing part of the British Royal wax seal on reverse and with short Arabic inscription on front. Light filing fold and trace of peripheral soiling do not detract from this striking item. Thought to have originally contained an official invitation from King William IV. Photo
