Lot Essay

This work is part of the celebrated "Daisy Group" of pictures painted
in 1933 and represents a strong period in Tappert's work. Daisy, the wife of a young lawyer at the time, was one of Tappert's favourite models around 1930. The takeover of the Nazi's and his arrest in the same year by the Gestapo brought his distinctive expressionist style to an abrupt end, since after this time he was forced to turn more and more to landscape painting.
