Lot Essay

The above group of impressions after signed works is of academic interest to gem collectors for in cases where an original has been lost the glass impression provides a useful record. For the Marchant examples cf. G. Seidmann, Nathaniel Marchant, Gem-Engraver, 1749-1816, Walpole Society (1987) vol.53 nos. 48, 96 (both untraced) and 108 (British Museum)
