a didactic poem of theological and ethical significance comprising doxologies, eulogies of the prophet, twenty discourses and an epithet, Persian manuscript on buff gold-sprinkled paper, 61ff. each with 14ll. of neat black nasta'liq in two columns, double gold ruled intercolumnar division between black rules, gold and blue margins between black rules, headings in red on gold scrolling vine, each folio in a green, blue, cream, yellow of dusty pink border painted with gold meandering vine mounted on a leaf of contrasting colour with large gold scrolling flowering vine, (negligible smudging), final folio dated 1031, gold lacquer binding with central panel of polychrome floral sprays in floral and minor borders, (repairs to edges), red lacquer doublures with central narcisscus and two other floral sprays

Lot Essay

Some folios are misbound and an endorsement on the last flyleave indicates that the manuscript once contained three illustrated folios.
