Lot Essay

Sir John Stoddart was a journalist who was leader-writer of the Times, before starting up his own daily known as the New Times in 1817. In 1826 he was appointed chief justice and justice of the vice admiralty court in Malta and it was during that same year that he was knighted at St. James's Palace.
