Lot Essay

A series of views of Lucknow and environs showing the extent of damage to buildings and landscape after the Indian Mutiny. Beato is known to have been in India with James Robertson, then Official Photographer to the British Military Forces. Although this series is generally credited to Beato it is possible the two photographers were working together.
