A MAGNIFICENT RANGE OF VINTAGES OF CHATEAU SIRAN AND CHATEAU PALMER The Property of Mme. May de Lencquesaing Shipped to London for this sale from the cellars at Château Pichon-Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande and now lying London, S.E.1 Offered duty-paid, but available in bond The following wines have all been carefully checked by M. Daniel Lawton, of the venerable and very distinguished firm of Bordeaux brokers, Tastet & Lawton. The vintages from 1914 to 1961 inclusive were recorked in 1988, except for 1943, 1948 and 1949 which were recorked between 1980 and 1988 at the Château (Pichon, Lalande). Capsules, labels and levels are impeccable. Château Siran, a cru bourgeois supérieur Margaux is less well known then its neighbour Palmer but produces a wine of considerable elegance and style. The property dates back to the fifteenth century and belonged at one point to the great grandfather of Toulouse Lautrec. In 1848 Siran was bought by the ancestors of the present owner, the Miailhe family (M. Alan Miailhe is the brother-in-law of Mme. de Lencquesaing). Château Siran produces long-lived wine of consistently high quality, with excellent fruit and fine deep colour. The cépage is made up of 50 Cabernet Sauvignon, 25 Merlot, 10 Cabernet Franc and 15 Petit Verdot. The twenty-three hectares of vines have a high average age and the wine spends two years in cask, one-third of which are replaced at each vintage It is of course rare to have an opportunity to acquire such an extraordinary range of old and mature vintages. Because they are so seldom seen, a wider than usual representative selection will be available for tasting Siran Vintages: for fuller notes please refer to The Great Vintage Wine Book II or Michael Broadbent's Pocket Guide to Wine Vintages, both published by Mitchell Beazley in association with Christie's Wine Publications and available from Christie's Wine Department
