Lot Essay

Robert Farrington Elwell (1874-1962) was one of the last "Old West" artists. Entranced by the sight of real-life cowboys and Indians from an early age, he eventually became Buffalo Bill Cody's ranch manager, providing him with the subject matter to illustate many early cowboy books and magazines, working over a period of sixty years.
