Mignon, an opera by Ambroise Thomas, was first produced in Paris in 1866. The main character, Mignon, is a beautiful young maiden kidnapped in childhood from her father's castle by wandering gypsies. The story is a popular subject in art and sculpture, with Mignon usually portrayed as a beautiful shy maiden holding a mandolin or a bouquet of flowers
