The Ebeniste Eugène-Paul Caillaux of rue Saint-Benoit specialised in the manufacture of this type of boulle furniture in the mid-19th century. Related furniture was imported at this period by H. D. & I. Falcke, for sale at their Oxford Street, London showrooms (see Sotheby's, London, 16th March, 1990, lot 150 for a table bearing Falcke's label).
