2° (475 x 320mm). Parallel titles and text in French and English, hand-coloured engraved frontispiece, 50 hand-coloured aquatint plates, all by I. Clark after Henry Alken. (Upper outer blank corner of one plate torn away and repaired, margins of two plates torn with a little loss and repaired, about 16 plates with some offsetting, 2 spotted.) Contemporary purple straight-grained morocco, elaborately tooled in gilt and blind, g.e. (some scuffing).
FIRST EDITION, second issue with frontispiece dated 1821. 'Alken's most important work... It must always form the cornerstone of any Alken collection' (Tooley 41).
