4° (235 x 183mm). Hand-coloured engraved title, 12pp. of printed text, 72 hand-coloured engraved plates. (Plate 61 with old marginal repair, some slight discolouration and dust-soiling.) Contemporary red calf, gilt roll-tool border round covers (scuffed), spine gilt (slightly faded with split in the leather), g.e. Provenance: Mary Robinson (signature on title dated 1776).

VERY RARE. ESTC records one copy at MacMaster University, Canada. 2 other copies are recorded at the Royal Horticultural Society (with 12 pages of text), and the Plesch/de Belder copy (imperfect). The two copies in this sale show some variation: this copy with 12pp. text, lot ?? with 2pp; here plate 14 shows a "Single Anemone", the other "Double Almond Blossom". The work was issued in 12 parts each with six plates, most with the first plate of each part bearing a part number and imprint. As the numbering of the plates in this copy is correct, this may be a later state to that in lot ??. Cf. Henrey 1200.
