4 volumes, oblong 2° (317 x 505mm). 393 plates (including an alternative plate 49 vol. I), some folding or double-page, the majority autotypes after Maudslay or H. N. Sweet, the others lithographic, a few hand-coloured, others coloured or tinted. Contemporary red half morocco gilt, t.e.g. Provenance: Frederick DuCane Godman (armorial bookplate).

EDITOR'S COPY IN FINE CONDITION. Maudslay was largely responsible for the rekindling of interest in the ancient central American civilizations, and his fine plates of temples, palaces and statues form a valuable photographic record. His collection of casts and artefacts is held by the Museum of Mankind in London. (4)
