Half-title, engraved vignette on title, leaf of avertissement and imprimatur, 21 engraved topographical tailpieces, and 44 double-page engraved plates by Montagu, Freicenet and Giraud, on guards throughout. (A few marginal tears, 1 touching illustration, some dust-soiling.) Contemporary maroon calf-backed boards (rubbed), spine gilt with lettering piece.
Although Olschki 16397 argues that the plates do not bear close comparison with Piranesi, having "ni la grandeur ni la chaude originalité", he nevertheless says they occupy an honourable place in the iconography of Rome. Berlin Katalog 2712; Brunet I.546.
