Large engraved wall map of North America on 15 double-page and 5 single sheets, together with hand-coloured index map, the wall-map including inset views of Niagara Falls, Mexico City, Quebec, New York and 17 inset harbour plans, on guards. (Several marginal tears, clean tear across part of one of the South American sheets, minor soiling and occasional pencil marks.) Old boards, partially disbound. Provenance: William Moorehead (armorial bookplate).
The first edition of Popple's map and the first large-scale printed map of America. It was drawn up under the direction of the Lord Commissioners of Trade and Plantations to help settle disputes between the European colonists. Tooley America p.316.
