Lot Essay
The overall form of this table with cast-iron seated hound corner supports and a simulated marble top relates to a type produced in the period 1855-1860 by the Coalbrookdale Company. Although the design appeared in their catalogues during that period, the only known example is one made for John Hargreaves (1839-1895) and exhibited at the Exposition Universelle, Paris, 1855. It was subsequently sold by Mrs Diana Quentin Wallace, Sotheby's London, 8 November 1985, lot 598.
