The artist here is Edward Frampton, father of the better-known Edward Reginald Frampton (1872-1923). The father was a stained-glass artist and church decorator, and the son, who eventually made his name as a painter of murals and easel pictures, worked with him for seven years in the 1890s.
The angel heads in this panel can be compared with those in Edward Frampton's decorative paintings in the Chapel at Weston Manor, Isle of Wight, and the windows at Hawarden Church, North Wales. The treatment of the drapery is also characteristic.
We are grateful to Mrs Rosemary Speirs for her help in preparing this entry.
