Lot Essay

Louis Huth was a patron and friend of both Whistler and George Frederick Watts. Tradition says that Topsy, aged 13 when painted, was related to the sister of the pug in the portrait of Mrs Louis Huth by Watts, which now hangs in the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, Dublin.
