Northcote produced two compositions of Lady Jane Grey in prison, both being engraved. One, an oil painting, signed and dated 1792, was engraved by Bromley for Bowyer's 1806 edition of Hume's History of England; this lacks the priest on the right and is also different in other ways, though not in general style. This drawing was engraved by J. Ogbourne and published 1 April 1798 by T. Simpson.

On the reverse of the drawing there is a faint impression of the engraving
