This drawing, the only known drawing of Ardleigh Church by Constable, was made during the months preceeding Constable's marriage on 2nd October, 1816, and comes from the so-called Honeymoon sketchbook. Two other drawings dated 27th July, 1816, and from the same sketchbook, are known. 'A Mill near Colchester' is in the Hornby Library, Liverpool City Library, and is illustrated in Constable and his Drawings by Ian Fleming-Williams (London, 1990), p. 257, Fig. 232. 'Fishing on a Lake in Wivenhoe Park', in the Victoria and Albert Museum (D. 233-1888), is illustrated in Catalogue of the Constable Collection by Graham Reynolds (London, 1960), no. 146, plate 118
