Lot Essay

It is difficult to be sure of the exact location of this view but it could be an early morning scene looking south down Minster Street with Silver Street running across at the end and the spire of the Cathedral rising above. Boys had already exhibited a 'Cathedrale de Salisbury' at the Paris Salon in 1833 and a view of 'High Street, Salisbury' as part of his series Remains of Old England at the New Water-Colour Society in 1860
