William Murray, 1st Earl of Mansfield (1705-1793), third son of David, 5th Viscount Stormont; called to the Bar in 1730; 1742 Solicitor-General; 1754 Attorney-General; 1756 Lord Chief Justice of England; elevated to the peerage of Baron Mansfield in the co. of Nottingham in the same year; married Elizabeth, daughter of Daniel, Earl of Winchelsea and Nottingham
