HAWKSLEY TARGET SHOOTING
SCORE COUNTER
Based on the counters manufactured for game shooters in the 19th Century, this model by Hawksley was designed for those engaged in target rifle shooting, an emergent and popular sport connected with the Volunteer movement. The National Rifle Association, the governing body for competitive rifle shooting, altered the designation of the scoring surfaces on its targets in 1877. Previously named Bull's Eye, Centre and Outer, the scoring rings were altered and re-named Bull's Eye, Inner, Magpie and Outer; names that remain to the present day.
