The present picture relates to the three-quarter length portrait of the same in Captain's full dress uniform by Hudson, sold in these Rooms, 12 July 1991, lot 15. Hudson painted Tyrrell in 1759 after his return from the West Indies, during which commission the Admiral had lost three fingers from his left hand in an engagement with the French ship Florissant and his command the Buckingham.
