Israel Long was the eldest son of Mathew Long of Dunston and his wife Susan, daughter of Sir Roger Potts Bt. of Mannington, Norfolk. Long married Elizabeth, daughter of Clement Cornance [?] of Rougham, Suffolk. He was buried in 1759, aged 57.
