A RARE MOMOYAMA CASKET decorated in gold hiramakie on a roironuri ground and inlaid in mother-of-pearl, the front with a lobed panel depicting farm buildings beneath trees, surrounded by a wide panel of geometric design, the sides and back with panels of scrolling foliage, the slightly domed cover with a large lobed panel depicting pavilions beneath pine trees, the interior with ho-o birds amongst clematis, engraved copper gilt kanagu (some restoration), Momoyama period (1583-1603)
