Lot Essay

This design is a variation on a popular Franco-Grecian design that is associated with the architect Henry Holland (d.1806). For a note on the design see lot 29 in this sale.
A suite of ebonised chairs of this model and with an Irish provenance were offered by Anthony James & Son. Ltd. at the 1989 Grosvenor House Fair (see: Catalogue, p.272)
