Lot Essay

This model is based on a design by Thomas Sheraton in his Drawing Book, London, 1802, pl.58. It seems to have been used by Gillows of Lancaster from 1840 until circa 1860. Holland and Sons supplied a similar desk in 1868 for (27 10s 0d. (see: R.W.Symonds and B.B.Whineray, Victorian Furniture, London, 1962, p.196, fig.221)
