CHARTERS AND WILLS. A collection of 7 documents on vellum. England ca. 1250, Caen 1222 and 1274, Tournai 1300-1360. All within mounts, framed and glazed.
They comprise: (1) A grant in Latin by Edith, mother of Henry de Oilli to Ralph de Cestreton, of a hide in her village of Weston, undated, but ca. 1250. Henri de Oilli was constable to Henry III and Sherriff of Oxford 1155-1161.
(2) and (3). Two grants in Latin to the Convent and Abbess of the Holy Trinity in Caen, Normandy. The first by Georgia, widow of Hugh de Longchamp, a rent of 10 Tournai solidi to maintain a lamp before the altar of St. Lawrence, 1222, with tag and remains of seal. The other by Peter de Fransino, Knight, two 'sextavios' of wheat for 11 livres Tournai, 1274.
(4) Will of the daughter of Seigneur Jehan de Berenger in French. Tournai 1342. This is a very detailed will of a wealthy lady bequeathing monies, furniture, a silver scale, numerous gifts to monks, nuns and churches, asking them to pray for her and her father, an emerald in gold, an ivory image of Our Lady, gifts to the poor etc.
(5-7) Various payments of money due to heirs according to wills. 3 large documents in French. Tournai 1300, 1352 and 1360. (7)
