A PALE CELADON AND RUSSET JADE SHEEP GROUP
probably 17th century
The recumbent ewe carved with its head turned back and balancing a flaming pearl with incised tanji motif on its back, flanked on either side by its reclining young, the underside carved with legs, tails and hooves folded under the bodies, the stone predominantly of brown tone with areas of paler celadon tone and an even polish, reddish staining to one side
4½in. (11.5cm.) long
