Martin Eidelberg suggests that this drawing and a version of the composition by Watteau at Darmstadt are both copies after a lost drawing by Gillot. Drawings related to the man on the extreme left and the shepherdess at the far right are in the Musée Carnavalet and the Norton Simon Museum of Art
