He Chaozong was one of the greatest porcelain sculptors of Dehua. He was probably active during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty and is often referred to as the Saint of all Porcelain Carvers. See P. J. Donnelly, op.cit., pp.270-276 for a discussion on He Chaozong, who supports the view that he was probably active during the Kangxi period, since there is absolutely no evidence of work by He having been produced in Ming kiln sites. Compare the almost identical slightly smaller figure of Guanyin bearing He Chaozong's seal mark in the Gruber collection, Portland, Oregon, illustrated ibid. pl.150D, and the similar, smaller example in the Musée Guimet, Paris, illustrated as pl.143B, together with other examples bearing He's mark as pls.144-150.
