Encriers of this model are known both with turquoise and apple-green Sèvres plaques. Simon-Philippe Poirier, the marchand-mercier is recorded as buying forty-two 'Plaques d'Escritoire' in 1764 (S. Eriksen, Sèvres Porcelain in the James A. Rothschild Collection at Waddesdon Manor, 1968, no. 64). There are examples at Waddesdon (op.cit.), the Wallace Collection (Catalogue, F. 286) and in the J. Paul Getty Museum, from the Dodge and Russian Imperial Collections (G. Wilson and A. Sassoon, ...Decorative Arts in the J. Paul Getty Museum, 1986, no. 145).
