Lot Essay

The Couronné Poinçon was a tax mark struck on any alloy containing copper between March 1745 and February 1749.

This table á ecrire is closely related to that delivered by Antoine-Robert Gaudreaux on 16 February 1742 for Louis XV's use at the Chateau de Choisy. The archives record:-

offered at Sotheby's London, 12 June 1992, lot 140, it had also interestingly undergone alterations to the top and was originally constructed with mahogany-linings. It is certainly possible that the elderly Gaudreaux farmed out some of his commissions, and the marquetry of both resembles that of Adrian Faizelot Delorne, maître in 1748
