Faceted bottles of this elegant form are very rare, and are usually found only made of crystal or glass, of which several examples can be seen in the world's major collections. According to Moss, Graham and Tsang, who discuss faceted shapes in The Art of the Chinese Snuff Bottle - The J&J Collection, New York, 1993, vol.II, p.560, such carving was begun during the Kangxi Period at the Palace Workshops and derived from European stylistic and technical influence during the early 1700's. Glass shapes tend to be less sharply angular, and the facets are not as flatly cut as in this jade example.
