Drs Dumas points out that in contrast to Jacob Elias's normal proceedure of executing paintings after drawings by his elder brother Paulus Constantijn, the present picture, datable c. 1770, derives from a composition by Jan ten Compe of about 1750 in the Historisch Museum, The Hague (C.
