A hitherto unrecorded version, with minor variations, of the artist's picture in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, which is of similar width (56 x 91.5cm.) and also on panel (Concise Catalogue of Oil Paintings in the National Maritime Museum, Woodbridge, 1988, p. 164, illustrated; E. H. H. Archibald, Dictionary of Sea Painters, 2nd ed., Woodbridge, 1989, p. 249, pl. 25; M. Russell, Visions of the Sea. Hendrick C. Vroom and the Origins of Dutch Marine Painting, Leyden, 1983, p. 180, fig. 165, with incorrect description of support and measurements). That picture is itself loosely based on the very large painting by Hendrick Cornelisz. Vroom in the Rijksmuseum (Archibald, op. cit., p. 243, pl. 8; Russell, op. cit., p. 152, fig. 134)
