Lot Essay

In August 1913 a camp was organised at Brandon in Norfolk by the daughters of the Fabian socialist and civil servant, Sir Sydney Olivier. Vanessa and Clive Bell, Molly MacCarthy, Maynard Keynes, Roger Fry and Duncan Grant all took part. A similar oil 'Tents' was exhibited at the Tate Gallery, Duncan Grant, 1959, no.29 (in the collection of Jeremy Hutchinson)
