A SPONTOON, of halberd form, with screw-in head comprising pierced crescentic axe-blade with two back scrolls, one formed as a bird's head, fluke en suite (one scroll broken), leaf-shaped spear-head with medial ridge on each side, faceted moulded socket with two screw-in beaked side-spikes, and two side-straps, on painted wooden staff made in two halves with conical brass shoe, mid-17th Century, probably German; another, the axe-blade and beak-shaped fluke made in one and slotted through the socket, pierced respectively with a letter Z in a circle, and a comma-shaped motif, screw-in leaf-shaped spear-head, and two side-straps, on painted wooden staff with conical iron shoe, late 17th Century; a spontoon with leaf-shaped spear-head, and faceted moulded socket retaining one screw-in side-spike, on original wooden staff with conical iron shoe, mid-17th Century; and another, with short partisan-shaped head with cusped side-lugs, on later wooden staff (wormed) with conical iron shoe, mid-17th Century
