A GREAT HELM in 14th Century style, of five riveted plates, two horizontal sights with hollow turns round the edges, and cruciform piercing on the left for a safety-chain; a cast iron copy of a French 16th Century embossed burgonet; a circular iron shield in 16th Century style, with turned roped edge and central spike, the front etched with scenes of knights in combat (worn, all with surface rust); a German tournament shield (Stechtarsche) in 15th Century style, of vellum-covered wood, with incurved sides and cusped top and bottom, concave and widely fluted towards the gesso-covered front with traces of painted designs (damaged and incomplete), and with canvas-covered back (canvas loose), probably by Schmidt of Munich; and a hand-pavise in 15th Century style, of wood covered with paper, the front painted with a black eagle charged with the arms of Bavaria
