A LIÈGE FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL with shortened sighted barrel chiselled in relief at the breech with a symmetrical design of foliage centred on a putto-mask against a gilt ground within engraved scrolls and strapwork, engraved tang retaining faint traces of gilding, flat bevelled lock chiselled in low relief with scrolls involving a further putto-mask on the tail and a monster-head on the cock (cock cracked, top jaw and screw replaced, mainspring missing), moulded figured walnut full stock carved with foliage in relief behind the barrel tang and on the fore-stock, iron mounts chiselled in relief against a gilt ground en suite with the barrel, finely pierced and chiselled side-plate centering on a classical portrait bust against a gilt ground, pierced escutcheon en suite, and spurred pommel with finely chiselled grotesque mask cap (ramrod missing), early 18th Century, probably by J.J.
