AN AUSTRIAN SILVER-MOUNTED FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL with twist barrel (slightly shortened) in the Turkish manner chiselled with foliage in low relief, the breech with encrusted silver decoration, the forward part with sighting groove (fore-sight missing), engraved tang numbered 1 and fitted with silver back-sight, signed flat bevelled lock engraved with the Rape of Persephone, and on the tail with the infant Diana, each on a matted ground, finely figured moulded walnut full stock (fore-end chipped) carved in relief with symmetrical scrollwork, full silver mounts engraved with strapwork and classical female figures, the bow of the trigger-guard with a female portrait bust in contemporary costume, the flat side-plate with a femal muscian and two cherubs on a terrace, the escutcheon with Diana and the pommel-cap with Venus and Cupid, engraved silver fore-end cap and ramrod-pipes, and original horn-tipped ramrod with engraved silver cap, by Franz Muck of Vienna and Linz, circa 1730-5
