AMMANATI, Bartolommeo (1511-1592). Two autograph letters signed to Giovanni Caccini Provveditore in Pisa, Florence, 17 April and 30 July 1563, the first acknowledging the arrival of 48 loads [of stone] at the Arno, accounting for some rope manufactured at the Pitti Palace and arranging a report on the bargemen, and the second expressing his urgent need for rope, 1 page, sizes 290 x 210mm - 294 x 212mm, with address panels, contemporary endorsements and traces of seals (slight holes in fold of the first, not affecting the text).
It is possible that the large quantity of stone being delivered to the Arno was in connection with the construction of the Uffizi by Vasari. The building, with the administrative offices of Cosimo's state on the ground floor and the Medici art collection housed on the first floor, was begun in 1559.
