A PAIR OF ORMOLU-MOUNTED CHINESE LACQUER AND BLACK AND GILT-JAPANNED BOMBE SIDE CABINETS
Decorated overall with raised Chinoiserie scenes of figures in a landscape, with bridges and temples, and with eared and serpentined breccia pavonazza frangiata marble top, above a door enclosing a red-painted interior with two removable shelves, flanked by keeled angles, on tapering sabots, lacking two ormolu sabots, one inscribed '21' in black pen, restorations to the lacquer and japanning, repaired breaks to marble top, adapted from a pair of Louis XV encoignures , the escutcheons possibly stamped with the 'C couronné poinçon'

Lot Essay

The C Couronné poinçon was a tax mark employed on any alloy containing copper between March 1745 and February 1749.

A similar pair of Louis XV encoignures, stamped by Jean-Baptiste Galet, was sold anonymously at Sotheby's New York, 22 April 1993, lot 247.
